My name is Sharif Behruz.  I was born in Iranian Kurdistan in the suburb of Naghadeh a city in the West Azerbijan province in North West Iran.  I was only 4 years old when the revolution in Iran resulted in the uprisings all over Iran and especially in Iranian Kurdistan.  Kurdish national movements were mobilizing as a result of the new changes and Kurdish political parties were gearing up activities in Iran.  My father joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran in the early days of the revolution, and he remained in exile till we were settled in Canada in 1994.

Living and growing up in Iranian Kurdistan for much of my teenage life, I have witnessed upfront violations of human rights, police brutalities and lawlessness something that ordinary Iranians especially national minorities among them Kurds face every day.

Following our settlement in Canada, I graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario in 2001 with an honours BA degree in Political Science.  I have been a member of Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran since 1995.  I served in various committees following my membership till 2003 when I was appointed the representative of the Party to Canada. In 2007, I was appointed to head the Party’s representation in the US, a position which I still hold to this date.

I have also worked with a number of reserach and advising firms.

I live with my two childern, Dilan and Doreen and my wife Shirin.
