Last commentary by Stephane Charbonnier (Charb) the Editor of Charlie Hebdo on Kurds, murdered in the barbaric attack on January 7, 2015

“Kurds defend us all”
Oct. 22, 2014
“I’m not Kurdish, I do not know a word of Kurdish, I would not be able to name a Kurdish author. Kurdish culture is totally foreign to me. Ah, yes! It just happened to me … Let’s eat Kurdish. Today I am Kurdish. I think Kurdish, I speak Kurdish, I sing Kurdish, I cry Kurdish.
The besieged Kurds in Syria are not just Kurds, they are humanity resisting darkness. They defend their lives, their families, their country, but they like it or not, they are the only rampart against the advance of the “Islamic State”.
They defend us against a fantasized Islam far beyond the Islamic State terrorists, against the most barbaric thugs. How would the coalition against these murderers be credible, whereas for various reasons, many of its members have shared with these fanatics (and still share some) strategic, political and economic interests? Despite all, today Kurdish people are still there and fighting.
