Îsmaîl Beşîkçî, a prominent Turkish scholar paid homage to the monument of Dr. Sadegh Sharafkandi, then the leader of Democratic Party of Kurdistan of Iran, who was gunned down in Berlin, Germany in 1992.
Dr. Beşikçi was accompanied by number of Kurdish activists, artists and politicians including the legendary Kurdish singer, Şivan Perwer.
In his remarks at the site of the monument, Dr. Beşikçi stated that “No Kurdish leader in Iran has died from natural cause; they have all been eliminated using terror on the order of [Iran’s] regimes.”
Iran’s Kurdish leaders, Simko Shikak, Qazi Muhammad, Dr. A. R. Ghassemlou and Dr. Sadegh Sharafkandi were all killed by Iran’s rulers, the first two on the order of the Pahlavi monarchy, and the latter two by the regime of Islamic Republic.
Îsmaîl Beşîkçî is a Turkish scholar. He is a PEN Honorary Member. He has served 17 years in prison on propaganda charges stemming from his writings about the Kurdish population in Turkey.
