The Honourable Thomas Mulcair, the Leader of the Official Opposition in Canada conveyed a greeting on the 68th founding anniversary of Kurdistan Republic.
It is worthy of noting the tremendous efforts put in by the office of the Honourable Irene Mathyssen of London-Fanshawe and the Honourable Paul Dewar, NDP’s Federal Foreign Affairs critic to facilitate this greeting. Thank you to both Member of Parliaments for all their support.

On behalf of Canada’s New Democrats, I extend sincere greetings to everyone gathered to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Kurdistan.
This day marks a significant milestone in your fight for Kurdish national rights in Iran. New Democrats share your vision of an Iran where nations founded on the principles of democracy, social justice and gender equality can co-exist peaceably.
I would also like to commend the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan for your tireless efforts to highlight human rights violations of Kurdish activists. By engaging with international partners you are building lasting relationships based on mutual respect which will help create a more secure future for the generations that follow you.
As you mark this anniversary, please know that we stand with you as you continue to fight for national rights.
Hon. Thomas Mulcair, P.C., M.P.
Leader of the Official Opposition
New Democratic Party of Canada
