(pdki.org) On December 17, 1945, the PDKI overtook the last Iranian military barrack in Mahabad and raised the Kurdish flag. The Peshmerga Forces of Kurdistan was officially founded on the same day.
Every year on December 17 people in Iranian Kurdistan honour the contribution and sacrifice of the Peshmerga Forces.
The Peshmerga Forces Day serves to emphasize the need for sacrifice in the Kurdish nations pursuit of freedom, but also to remind us of the continued need for unity among all Kurds in the interests of security and peace.
The Kurdish people in Iranian Kurdistan devote one day each year to paying special tribute to those whose courage constitute the bulwarks of guarding the Kurdish nation.
