Today, February 21, 2012 is the International Mother Language Day. Hoping, on this day, for a future that no human being will be deprived of education and development in one’s mother language.

Also this is a segment of our statement on mother language and education in mother language that was presented on the 7th Session of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples:
“The government in Iran does not allow education in mother tongue to Kurds in Iran and other indigenous ethnic groups in Iran such as Azeris, Arabs, Baluchis and Turkmens, let alone having “the right to establish and control their educational systems and institutions providing educational systems and institutions” as outlined in the Article 14 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples. This is also despite the fact that the government’s own constitution guarantees these rights under the Article 15 and 19.”
